OnRamp to OCAP
Liberate Technologies(r)
developed the first software platform that allows cable
operators to deliver OCAP (Open Cable(tm) Application Platform)
Java(tm) applications to today's deployed set-top boxes.
With Liberate TV Navigator 5, cable operators can rapidly launch
services competitive with satellite while ensuring forward
compatibility with future OCAP devices. By allowing OCAP
content developers to tap into the large installed base of
OnRamp-capable digital set-tops, Liberate's TV Navigator 5 Java
platform energizes the launch of OCAP services.
The Liberate TV Navigator 5 OnRamp Solution enables cable
operators to deliver multiple services-electronic program guide
(EPG), video-on-demand (VOD), personal video recorder (PVR), and
high-definition television (HDTV)-on set-tops being deployed
today by US cable operators.
Services created with TV Navigator will continue to run even as
today's proprietary set-tops are downgraded from the living room
to the guest bedroom, and will take on new life as OCAP boxes
are deployed. The same VOD, PVR, EPG, etc. services will
run unchanged on SA set-tops and the OCAP-compliant HDTV or game
machine.
Liberate offers the only solution that allows cable operators to
begin accelerating toward OCAP today: Write once, deploy widely.
